For those of you die-hard Nourish fans, you’ll remember that I love some good messy hair. That being said, I also enjoy a good weekly hair washing. You really can’t beat scrubba dubbing your hair in a steaming hot shower, especially this time of year. As with many people, the cold (albeit rare in Florida) air and super hot water tend to do a number on my scalp. I’m prone to dry skin anyway, but winter is especially tricky. So, it was with a stroke of genius that I discovered my new hair & scalp therapy yesterday!
I honestly don’t know where the thought came from, maybe I was thinking about Buddy the Elf’s journey through the seven levels of the Candy Cane Forest, but suddenly the scent of peppermint popped into my mind as I headed for the shower. I started thinking about how lovely it smells, how refreshing it is, and then, it hit me! I should put some peppermint oil in my shampoo!
Wait, what?
I mean, it smells good, but can it actually BE good for my hair? Well, lucky for me, a quick Google search gave me some pretty convincing evidence. I learned that peppermint oil is a natural astringent and it has pH balancing properties than can help with both oily AND dry scalp! The tingling sensation it provides also helps stimulate hair follicles and promote growth. Who knew!?
All these facts were more than enough to cause me to experiment with the wonder oil myself. Conveniently, I had a bottle of peppermint essential oil in my bathroom closet (from all those bath salts I like to make) and simply added a few drops to my shampoo. The smell was incredibly delicious and seriously invigorating. Peppermint has a natural cooling effect and honestly made my hair super soft and shiny! And guess what? A full day later and it still looks, feels, and smells great!
So, from here on out, my weekly shampooing will absolutely include a little peppermint pep. Try it for yourself!
