There is a beautiful lady I have the pleasure of knowing named Bethany Bauman. B is not only beautiful, but she is an incredibly talented human with an even more incredibly compassionate heart for humanity. Last weekend, Bethany hosted a birthday party unlike one I’ve ever been to…or even heard of before. Publicized by a Facebook event page entitled, “Birthday BUZZZZZZ”, B vowed to shave her head! Why, you ask? The answer is simple: “to celebrate LIFE” and to raise funds for a human trafficking safe house in Austin, TX .
The above statistic is sobering and terribly saddening. The truth that millions of people are enslaved in today’s world is disturbing enough, but coupled with the fact that humans do this to one another makes this truth simply disgusting. It’s time for us to educate ourselves and to do what we can, alongside Bethany and her buzzed head, to stop this devastation. You can learn more about modern day slavery HERE and human trafficking in Florida HERE.
Now through Monday, 5/23/11 you can donate to Bethany’s cause HERE. Join her in the fight against slavery through monetary support and by petitioning to God through prayer. The Lord cares for the oppressed, desires justice and instructs that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16. Let’s fight together!
You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more. Psalm 10:17-18
